Stephonne Singleton
If you are looking for a good soul-stirring, acquaint yourself with Stephonne. The KC-born artist evokes the sultry sashay of Prince — one of his primary inspirations — and the omniscient wisdom of great jazz singers from bygone eras. He recombines the best elements of soul, R&B and funk, informing the resulting sound with some kind of magical instinct for the irresistible.

Ava Sophia
If you are looking to discover some fresh, authentic, and exuberant new music, you have found it in the Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter, Ava Sophia. Having performed at numerous venues in the Boston-metropolitan area including The All-Asia Bar and Live Music in Cambridge, The Rosebud Diner in Somerville, The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and McGann’s Pub in the North End, Ava is striving to inspire the world around her through her music.

Ava is gifted with a true musical spirit; she started piano lessons at age 9, songwriting in middle school, and has been singing for as long as she can remember. When she reached high school, she began formal training in jazz and classical music at the Boston Arts Academy, Boston’s premier performing arts high school. All the while she explored her own interests in pop, soul, funk, blues, and rock music. She credits neo-soul powerhouses India. Arie, Jill Scott, and Alicia Keys as well as master singer-songwriters Sara Barellies, Tracy Chapman, Ingrid Michealson and Carole King as her most prominent musical influences, all of which are reflected in her distinctive blend of soulful grooves and acoustic-pop. Her genuinely unique tone along with her tasteful intelligence in her vocal phrasing make her the exceptional artist she is today.

Currently, Ava is developing her craft and career at the world-renowned Berklee College of Music. She is continuing to share her music locally in and around Boston. Her true passion and ambition are captured when she describes music to be “the only way I know how to make the world a better place”.
Paola Bennet - (Set time: 7:00 PM)

During the Q&A section of Paola's first Sofar Sounds show, an audience member asked, "I love your songwriting, but what does your music sound like when things are going well?" Thus was born Paola's unique brand of "sadgirl folk." While evoking the melancholy sweetness of Sara Bareilles and Joni Mitchell, and lush intimations of her native New England, her music has a haunting edge and electric grit all its own.

Storytelling is a natural instinct: As a teenager she gained considerable acclaim, from showrunners and authors alike, for her early songs based on her favorite stories. After self-producing her first EP in 2013, she worked independently with songwriting legend Scarlet Keys to hone most of the songs on the second, Something to Win (2014). In December 2016, she put out The Shoebox EP, her first studio release and the result of an Indiegogo campaign which raised 30 percent beyond its target goal. "For years, I've kept various mementos in shoeboxes: old notes, gifts, objects [with] some kind of significance," she wrote of the project. "Most of the time, though, those shoeboxes stay dusty and tucked away in my basement, rarely seeing daylight. The songs on this EP are much the same: [they] forced me to deal with something painful in my life, some kind of vulnerability."
